It’s beer festival week in Wolverhampton! This means the Summer Festival of Beer & Cider is live from this Thursday 23rd July at 12 noon! You can grab an advance ticket right now, guaranteeing entry and avoid the queue!
There is a huge amount going on at this year’s festival. For a start, we have a joint celebratory theme. It’s the 100th anniversary of a significant moment in Wolverhampton’s transport history, when on 13th July 1926, two six-wheeled double-deck buses entered service, both built by Wolverhampton’s own Guy Motors Ltd. at Fallings Park.
One of these pioneering vehicles entered service in Wolverhampton itself and earned pride of place as the first six-wheeled double-deck bus to enter service. It was also fitted with an enclosed upper deck, an important step towards the fully enclosed double-deck buses we know today.
We’re also celebrating the 50th anniversary of Wolverhampton CAMRA this year! The inaugural branch meeting was held in November 1976 at the Clarendon Hotel in Chapel Ash, and our commemorative festival glasses celebrate this fact. On that note, a huge thank you to our festival sponsors, Springbanks Brewery – who are debuting their first two beers at our festival, an IPA and a Mild ale.

We’ve also got some brand new one-off beers from Newbridge Brewery, BEERWOLF Gold (5%) and Kinver Brewery, GoLden Years (5%), both produced in celebration of our 50th anniversary – be sure to sample some before they sell out! There’s a great range of ales this year including many dark ales – stouts, milds and porters specifically, that are usually requested and – even at our summer festival, sell well.

This year, the festival committee have really pushed the boat out with entertainment throughout. Both Friday and Saturday boast several acts – check out the poster for the full list, a special thank you to Rupert Doley for his work here.
On Thursday evening, we are holding a special vintage bottle auction – click the poster below for the full available list of bottles. All money raised from this auction goes to Parkinson’s UK. There are some sought after bottles listed, be sure not to miss this one!
Our chosen charity for our tombola this year is ARC – the Ashmore Rescue for Cats. Please show your support by visiting the tombola and having a go – as usual there will be an impressive array of prizes available.
